Who we are
Middle Kingdom Travel was founded by Christopher Knowles. He first visited China in 1981, by taking a
train and a group of tourists from London. Since then he has visited China many hundreds of times including
twenty-six times by train. He has written several books on China including two guidebooks on Shanghai, and
two on the country as a whole.
Ann Knowles worked as a guide in China and Europe for several years and also in the international news
section at the BBC in London.
Zhu Xiao Ming was born and raised in Beijing. For many years a guide for CITS (China International Travel
Service) in China, she has lived in the UK for twenty years and is a frequent visitor to her home country.
